Take a Break from Everything

Daily writing prompt
Do you need a break? From what?

This past fall life threw us into a tailspin, and everything was changing. Losing a job, facing a group of people twisting the truth, attacks on personal character affecting other work and life, and losing our housing. Worry for the future and severe anxiety sat in, and for the first time in my life, I sought medical help for anxiety which was affecting my work, my concentration, and my sleep.

I have spent years encouraging others to get help, but I fought seeking any help for anxiety myself. However, I have found that it was the best thing I could have done. I started some mild anxiety medication and went for some therapy. These have helped, but I also think taking a break from everything for a bit has had the biggest effect.

My wife and I ended last year without jobs. We had no home of our own, but thankfully had family to stay with. We had blessings from God, as new jobs were opening up, but there was over a month without work. There was moving, storing, and purging of nearly twenty years of what we had collected. In reality, there has been the purging of our lives in many respects.

I would encourage you to take a break from Yourself

  • Take a break from the routine: the hustle, the worry, and the stress.
  • Take a break to reevaluate what is truly important for you and your family.
  • Take a break to allow your heart, mind, and soul to heal and rejuvenate.
  • Take a break from what you know or think you do to allow yourself to learn about yourself and life again.

I hope you don’t have to lose most of what you have to learn to take the breaks from who and what you are doing, so you can become the better you that you may be missing.

Blessings on the journey of life,

From the Sap Shed,

Dan Shipton
